History
Star Alliance was founded on May 14, 1997, by five airlines — Air Canada, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Thai Airways, and United Airlines — who sought to create a coordinated global network offering passengers seamless connections and shared benefits across previously separate airline systems. As the world's first global airline alliance, Star Alliance established many of the operational and branding conventions that Oneworld and SkyTeam later adopted when they formed in subsequent years.
